Hyatt Hotels has become the first major hotel chain to offer on-site Covid-19 testing across all of its resorts in Central and South America.

Not only are the tests free, but the hotel group has also made arrangements to assist those who test positive.

The launch of these testing facilities came after the US officially introduced a new restriction that required all travellers entering the country to present a negative Covid-19 test result.

However, many governments around the globe have already put such a mandate in place.

As a result, Hyatt’s decision to offer this new service will no doubt make their resorts more appealing, and even tempt travellers who might otherwise have delayed their trip due to the added expense of testing.

The complimentary testing will be available at all 19 Hyatt resorts in Latin America, covering popular destinations like the Caribbean and Mexico.

Guests will receive a RT-PCR or rapid antigen test, depending on the resort. Two tests are offered per room, per stay free of charge. Additional tests can be purchased.

There is a minimum length of stay to be elegible for complimentary testing, though again this varies based on resort.

Any guest who tests positive will be able to utilise Hyatt’s Travel Delay Rate, a seperate initiative that offers up to 50% off room rates and up to 30% off food and beverage.

Hyatt Chief Commerical Officer, Mark Vondrasek commended the services for providing travellers with ‘added confidence, peace of mind and convenience when staying at or considering travel to Hyatt properties in Latin America’.

Hotel testing is certainly one pathway to start reviving the travel industry. Should more hotels follow suit, the assurance of a free test and discounted board could be enough to sway those hesitant to travel to take the next step.
